Dear Residency Applicant,
Welcome! We are so excited that you are considering joining our UC San Diego Internal Medicine family!
Our residency program offers broad-based training in general internal medicine and its specialties, with the opportunity to care for patients from diverse backgrounds at world-class teaching hospitals and a myriad of outpatient clinics throughout San Diego. Graduates receive an exceptional education in both the art and the science of medicine from faculty who are world leaders in clinical medicine and research. Our residents provide compassionate, patient-centered, evidence-based care and develop skills for leadership in a wide array of practice settings. They go on to train in highly competitive fellowship programs and pursue careers as clinician-educators, physician scientists, primary care doctors, hospitalists, global health specialists or healthcare administrators.
Training at UC San Diego includes protected didactic time with an interactive curriculum (covering a wide array of topics including point of care ultrasound, healthcare economics, interpreting the medical literature, patient communication, and teaching). Our residents also have the opportunity to participate in unique training experiences including an optional two-month mentored research block and a Global Medicine elective in Mozambique.
In addition to our Categorical Internal Medicine Program, there are several unique training tracks including:
